General description

P38 MAPK is a mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) that belongs to serine/threonine protein kinases family and is activated in response to stress signals like- osmolarity changes, UV-irradiation, heat shock, cytokines and lipopolysaccharides (LPS). It mainly expresses in brain, muscle, thymus, spleen, heart, lung, kidney and fibroblasts.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide K-DEVISFVPPPLDQEEMES derived from the C-terminus of mouse p38 MAP kinase (amino acids 343-360 with N-terminally added lysine) as immunogen. This sequence is highly conserved in human and rat p38 MAP kinase.

Application

Anti-p38 MAP Kinase antibody has been used in western blotting (diluted 1:1000) using using NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblasts cell lysate and rat brain extract. It has also been used in microarray.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAP kinases, MAPKs) are a family of protein kinases which are considered to play a crucial role in signal transduction pathways in mammalian cells by leading mitogenic signals to their intracellular targets. MAP kinases regulate several cellular processes, such as proliferation, differentiation, response to stress and oncogenesis. p38 MAPK is activated in response to stress signals like- osmolarity changes, ultravoilet-irradiation, heat shock, cytokines and lipopolysaccharides (LPS). It is required for phosphorylation of MAPK-activated protein kinase 2 (MAPKAPK-2). Anti-p38 MAP Kinase antibody can be used to study the differential tissue expression, specific activation requirements and intracellular localization of MAP kinase isoforms in normal and neoplastic tissues.
Rabbit anti-p38 MAP Kinase antibody reacts specifically with p38 MAP kinase from mouse and rat.
