Lysostaphin ist eine Zink-Endopeptidase mit einer Molekülmasse von etwa 25 kDa. Da Lysostaphin die Polyglycinvernetzungen in der Peptidoglykanschicht der Zellwand von Staphylococcus-Spezies spaltet, ist es nützlich für die Zelllyse und auch als potenzielles antimikrobielles Therapeutikum.
