General description

The gene IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) is mapped to human chromosome 2q35.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

During development, insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2 is expressed in a number of tissues with the highest expression level found in the central nervous system. IGFBP-2 exhibits a 2-10 fold higher affinity for IGF II than for IGF I. Mouse and human IGFBP-2 share approximately 82% homology.

Exhibits a 2-10 fold higher affinity for IGF II than for IGF I.

IGFBP-2 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein-2) regulates the function of IGF ligands. IGFBP2 is associated with skeletal muscle cell proliferation and differentiation. It also plays an important role in the differentiation of corneal fibroblast.[2]
