Beschreibung

General description

Gemfibrozil is a fibric acid derivative and a hypolipidemic drug. Gemfibrozil serves as a ligand for PPARα (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α).[1][2]

Application

Gemfibrozil has been used to to study its effects on cell cycle progression in yeast.[3] It has been used to study the effects of fibrates on cell proliferation and gene expression in human cell lines.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Gemfibrozil selectively increases Apolipoprotein A-I levels.[4] In yeast cells, application of gemfibrozil delays the start of DNA replication.[3] It is used as a therapeutic agent for dyslipidemia.[1]
