Erythroid cell differentiation studies, induced globin synthesis

Biochem/physiol Actions

Derived from 30 year old male Caucasian. Expresses β-2 microglobulin and Ia antigen. Used in the study of erythroid cell differentiation and globin gene expression. Analogous to Friend cell leukaemia in mice. K-562 has similar characteristics.

Preparation Note

Maintain cultures between 3-9x100,000 cells/ml; 5% CO₂; 37°C. Cell growth can be very slow on resuscitation. Stand the culture flask up overnight using 20% FBS.

RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
