General description

Agar (Type A) is extracted from agarocytes of the red alga Rhodophyceae. It is a polysaccharide complex, consisting of a neutral gelling fraction, agarose, and a non-gelling fraction, agaropectin. Type-A agar forms a thermoreversible gel[1], and is most suitable for plant cell culture.

Application

Type A agar has been used:
  • to perform metal(loid)-related phenotyping of the Arabidopsis thaliana metal-sensitive mutant strains[2]
  • as a component of Murashige and Skoog (MS) media to culturing Arabidopsis thaliana seeds[3]
  • to culture Cicer arietinum L. (Chickpea) seeds for Agrobacterium rhizogenes mediated root transformation[4]

Mg2+ is among the most abundant divalent cations in living cells. In plants, investigations on magnesium (Mg) homeostasis are restricted to the functional characterization of Mg2+ transporters. Here, we demonstrate that the splicing factors SUPPRESSORS OF MEC-8 AND UNC-52 1

For researchers in the plant metal field, the agar reagent used for the solid plate medium is a problematic factor because application of different agar types and even a different lot of the same agar type can mask the plant

Plants live in close relationships with complex populations of microorganisms, including rhizobacterial species commonly referred to as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). PGPR are able to improve plant productivity, but the molecular mechanisms involved in this process remain largely unknown. Using

Plants live in association with complex populations of microorganisms, including Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) that confer to plants an improved growth and enhanced stress tolerance. This large and diverse group includes endophytic bacteria that are able to colonize the internal
