Anwendung

Amaranth diente als Farbstoff für die mikroskopische Visualisierung der Kropfkontraktion bei Schmeißfliegen.[1] Er wurde in Elektrophoresegelen zum Verfolgen der Wanderung der Elektrodenpufferfront eingesetzt.[2]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Amaranth ist ein Azofarbstoff, der vor allem in der Getränke- und Lebensmittelindustrie verwendet wird. Er gilt auch als endokriner Disruptor.[3]
