Antimikrobielle Aktivitäten von Berberin werden durch den MDR-Inhibitor 5´-Methoxyhydnocarpin (5´-MHC) potenziert. Berberin hochreguliert die Expression von Pgp in Hepatomzellen. Die Behandlung mit Berberin führt potenziell zu einer reduzierten Anreicherung von Chemotherapeutika.
