General description
Urease (Urea-Amidohydrolase; EC 3.5.1.5) ist ein nickelabhängiges Metallenzym, das in verschiedenen Pflanzen, Bakterien, Pilzen, Algen und sogar einigen Wirbellosen vorkommt.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Urease katalysiert die Hydrolyse von Harnstoff zu Ammoniak und CO2. Sie wird in der Entwicklung der Enzymologie und Hämprotein-Chemie eingesetzt. Bakterielle Urease wirkt als Virulenzfaktor und ist an der Pathogenese von hepatischem Koma, Magengeschwüren und Pyelonephritis beteiligt.
