General description

Kieselgel mit Indikator oder Orange-Gel wird verbreitet als Trocknungsmittel in Laboren eingesetzt und eignet sich zum Trocknen aller Gase und Feststoffe. Es wird in Trockentürmen, Exsikkatoren und Absorptionsröhrchen eingesetzt. Aufgrund seiner großen Oberfläche bietet Kieselgel Orange eine ausgezeichnete Absorptionskapazität, wodurch die Lagerungsbedingungen länger aufrecht erhalten werden können. Wenn es Feuchtigkeit aufnimmt, wechselt die orange Farbe zu farblos (Beladung mit einem Gewichtsanteil von ca. 6 %).

Application

Silica Gel with Orange gel indicator can be used for:
  • Moisture Management: Commonly found in desiccators, it protects hygroscopic chemicals and solids from moisture, ensuring sensitive materials stay intact during storage and experimentation.
  • Chromatographic Adsorption: Serves as a stationary phase in chromatography, aiding in the effective separation and analysis of various chemical compounds.
  • Equipment Protection: In laboratory settings, it absorbs excess humidity to prevent corrosion and damage to sensitive equipment, extending the lifespan of valuable instruments.
  • Drying Agent for Gases and Liquids: Utilized in drying towers and absorption tubes, it efficiently removes moisture from gases and liquids, improving the accuracy of analytical results.

  1. can the gel be regenerated in an oven, if so for how long and what temperature

    1. Silica gel (orange gel) can be regenerated in a drying oven at 130–140 °C for 3 hours. Desiccant sachets should not be heated beyond 80 °C, as the bag adhesive can melt.

  2. Can these beads be redried in an oven? or when they are spent (colourless), should they get completely replaced?

    1. These beads (granules) change from orange to colorless when hydrated. The granules can be regenerated by heating in an oven at 130 °C to 140 °C for 3 hours, after which they regain their orange color. This process can be repeated; however, after numerous cycles, the color indicator may fade, reducing the moisture indicating ability.

  3. What color does the silica gel turn into when saturated?

    1. When saturated with moisture, the silica gel changes from orange to colorless (approximately 6 wt % load).

  4. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  5. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers.   6. Are these silica gels 101905, 101969, 101972, 107735, and 101907 type A, type B, or type C?

    1. All of the silicas listed appear to be type A, ~700 m2/g BET surface area and 20-25 angstroms (or 2.0-2.5 nm) pore size.
