Allgemeine Beschreibung

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is synthesized by the condensation of alanine with palmitoyl-CoA.[1]

Anwendung

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is suitable for use for testing its cytotoxic effects on primary neuron-glia cultures.[2] It is also suitable for use as a neurotoxic agent in human CD8+ T cells.[3] In hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type I, mutations in serine palmitoyltransferase long chain base subunit 1 resulting in altered substrate specificity and accumulation of 1.[4]

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

1-desoxymethylsphinganine is neurotoxic towards CD8+ T cells and inhibits cytokine production.[3] However, it is not cytotoxic to dopaminergic neurons.[2]
