General description

Ethanolamine is a colourless organic compound. It is a strong base and is miscible in water, alcohol, carbon tetrachloride and chloroform. It is highly toxic in nature and is a strong irritant. It is derived from ethylene oxide reacting with ammonia forming mono-, di-, and triethanolamine. It is widely used in manufacturing detergents when reacting with fatty acid. It is most commonly used a corrosion inhibitor.
This substance is listed on the positive list of the EU regulation 10/2011 for plastics intended to come into contact with food. Find all available reference materials for compounds listed in 10/2011 here

Application

Ethanolamine may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in cosmetic products, water samples and ethanolamine mixtures by various chromatography techniques.
