General description

Flurazepam is a benzodiazepine, sold under the trade names Dalmane and Salmadorm for treament of mild to moderate insomnia. This analytical reference standard is suitable for many LC/MS or GC/MS applications from urine drug testing and clinical toxicology to forensic toxicology analysis.

Application

  • Flurazepam in Sleep Research: Flurazepam, a benzodiazepine receptor agonist, is used in sleep epidemiology to explore its effects on sleep patterns and quality. This sedative-hypnotic is evaluated for its potential to improve sleep among various populations, contributing valuable insights into sleep medicine (Fernandez-Mendoza et al., 2024).

  • Pharmacology and GABA Receptors: Studies involving Flurazepam help elucidate its mechanism as a GABAergic compound, particularly in the context of its interaction with GABA(A) receptors. This research is foundational in neuropharmacology, providing deeper understanding of how benzodiazepines modulate neuronal activity and contribute to their therapeutic and side effects (Sun et al., 2023).

Many epidemiological studies assess the effects of time-dependent exposures, where both the exposure status and its intensity vary over time. One example that attracts public attention concerns pharmacoepidemiological studies of the adverse effects of medications. The analysis of such studies

Benzodiazepine withdrawal anxiety is associated with potentiation of alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionate receptor (AMPAR) currents in hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons attributable to increased synaptic incorporation of GluA1-containing AMPARs. Stress induces changes in the endogenous tone of both GABA and NMDA receptor-mediated neurotransmission in the intact mouse. Because changes are observed 24 h after stress, epigenetically-regulated alterations in gene expression may mediate these effects. In earlier work, sodium butyrate

Cessation of one-week oral administration of the benzodiazepine flurazepam (FZP) to rats results in withdrawal anxiety after 1 day of withdrawal. FZP withdrawal is correlated with synaptic incorporation of homomeric GluA1-containing α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazole-4-propionic acid receptors (AMPARs) in the proximal stratum radiatum

The inbred Balb/c mouse strain was more sensitive than the outbred NIH Swiss mouse to flurazepam's ability to antagonize electrically precipitated seizures. In prior work, a reduction in flurazepam's antiseizure efficacy was not observed 24h after forcing Balb/c mice to
