General description

Tetradecane is an alkane hydrocarbon containing 14 carbon atoms. It is generally used as an organic solvent in synthesis Nonpolar aliphatic solvent, n-tetradecane, is good for aliphatic side chains, but poor for aromatic backbones.

Application

Tetradecane was used to study the thermodiffusion behavior of the microemulsion droplets of H2O/n-alkanes/C12E5 (pentaethylene glycol monododecyl ether).

Tetradecane is also used as:

  • A core material in the preparation of NEPCMs(nano-encapsulated phase change materials) along with sodium dodecyl sulfate as emulsifier, resorcin as system modifier, and urea–formaldehyde resin as the shell material.
  • A selective solvent to study the phase behavior of block copolymer melts.
