Chlorpropham is a mitosis inhibitor that belongs to the class of carbamate herbicides and plant growth regulators. It interferes with the spindle microtubules organization leading to the formation of multiple spindles and nuclei. A selective and systemic herbicide, it is used for the pre-emergence control of annual grass and some broad-leaved weeds in onions, leeks, garlic, shallots, alfalfa, clover, sugar beets, spinach, lettuce, endive, chicory, herbs, peas, beans, carrots, celery, black salsify, fennel, soybeans, cotton, rice, safflowers, sunflowers, cranberries, cane berries, ornamentals, and shrubs, perennial grass seed crops. It also finds its use to prevent post-harvest sprouting in potatoes.
According to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 2019/989 of 17th June 2019, chlorpropham is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as a plant protection agent, following the Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009. But maximum residue levels of 0.01- 0.05 mg/kg are allowed for its presence in the products of plant and animal origin as per the EU Reg. 2021/155.
Application
Chlorpropham CRM may also be used as given below:
- Determining chlorpropham residues in concrete samples using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with a UV-Visible detector to evaluate the concentration of chlorpropham lost to the concrete flooring during potatoes storage
- Analysis of chlorpropham in different parts of potato by a state-of-the-art microextraction (µQuEChERS), followed by a clean-up based on dispersive solid-phase extraction and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography combined with photodiode array detection(UHPLC-PDA)
- Investigate the wastewater and products of three vegetable and two potato processing companies for the presence of pesticide residues using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with electrospray ionization (ESI)
- Simultaneous analysis of 171 pesticide residues in cowpea samples using reversed-dispersive solid-phase extraction (r-DSPE) based on the use of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a sorbent for sample clean-up and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS)
- To develop a dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction(DLLME) coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry procedure for the extraction and quantification of 40 pesticide residues in nutraceutical samples
- Development and validation of a multi-residue procedure for the determination of 109 pesticides from different chemical classes in 345 tomato samples based on modified QuEChERs sample preparation combined with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
