Biochem/physiol Actions

WE-14 peptide is a highly conserved neuropeptide derived from Chromogranin A (Parathyroid Secretory Protein 1). It has been detected in vertebrate and invertebrate neurons and in vertebrate endocrine tissues, most notably in the adrenal, pituitary, and parathyroid glands, and has also been found in human and bovine gastro-entero-pancreatic tissues.

WE-14 is derived from the cell-specific posttranslational processing of chromogranin A (CgA) in subpopulations of neuroendocrine cells and neurons. Region- and site-specific chromogranin A, pancreastatin and WE-14 antisera were employed to study the generation of WE-14 in porcine ocular tissues.
