Gene Information

human ... PPIB(5479)

General description

Cyclophilin B belongs to the cyclophilin family of immunophilins. It is present in the cytoplasm, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum (ER)/golgi and plasma membrane. The protein can also be secreted from cells. The associated gene is mapped to human chromosome 15q22.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

In endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Cyclophilin B works as a chaperone for exported proteins. It also participates in the intracellular transport of collagen and proper formation of collagen fibril. Cyclophilin B can bind to the Gag protein of human immunodeficiency type 1 (HIV-1) and helps in HIV replication. It is also involved in the infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV), Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) and human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16).[2] Cyclophilin B protects against ER-mediated hypoxia-induced cell death.[3] It is overexpressed in various malignancies.[4]

Cyclophilin B (CypB) is a member of the immunophilin family and intracellular chaperone. It predominantly localizes to the ER, but also contains a nuclear localization signal and is secreted from cells. CypB has been shown to interact with the Gag
