Gene Information

human ... PIWIL4(143689)

General description

P-element Induced WImpy testis (PIWI)-like 4 (PIWIL4) protein belongs to the PIWI subfamily. This protein is localized in tumorous colon tissues. PIWIL4 gene is located on the human chromosome at 11q21.

Specificity

Anti-PIWIL4 recognizes human PIWIL4.

Immunogen

peptide corresponding to an internal region of human PIWIL4, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence differs by a single amino acid in mouse and rat.

Application

Anti-PIWIL4 antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting.

Biochem/physiol Actions

P-element Induced WImpy testis (PIWI)-like 4 (PIWIL4) protein promotes tumorigenesis and cell invasion. It is expressed in several cancers like colon and breast cancer. This protein enhances cell growth and blocks apoptosis in cervical cancer cells. PIWIL4 protein is also involved in the chromatin-modifying pathway of human somatic cells. Mutation in the PIWIL4 gene is associated with breast cancer.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers,is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.
