General description

Doxycycline is a member of the tetracycline antibiotics group, and is commonly used to treat a variety of infections. It is a Broad spectrum antibiotic and bacteriostatic. Doxycycline shows antiprotozoal properties and is a potent inhibitor of MMPs (matrix metalloproteinases) in vivo.

Application

Doxycycline hydrochloride has been used for the induction of shRNA expression and induction of expression vectors.[1][2][3]

  1. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
      For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
      For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  2. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature.     1. This product is soluble in water at 50 mg/ml.

  4. What is the best way to solubilize the product for cell culture and animal use?

    1. This product has not been tested for use in cell culture. However, product D5207 is a cell culture tested Doxycycline Hyclate. The Hyclate and the Hydrochloride salt forms are soluble in water at roughly equal rates. For dosing purposes, the unique molecular weight of each must be considered. Please see the link below to the product data sheet for the cell culture version of this product. This information offered in this document may be applied to the D3447:

      Note that neither of these products are sterile. Prepared stock solutions must be filter sterilized prior to adding them to the culture medium.
