General description

Petroleum ether is a high boiling point fraction having a boiling point in the range of 60-80°C. Extracts of leaves of Litchi chinensis Gaertn. (Sapindaceae) have been prepared in petroleum ether and were evaluated for antiinflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities.[1]

Application

Petroleum ether may be employed in the extraction of biologically active carotenoid pigments from the total carotenoid pigments by adsorption.[2] It may be employed in the solvent reservoir during the separation of lipid mixtures by adsorption chromatography with silicic acid.[3]
