General description

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA), a flammable liquid with a slight ether odor, is widely used as a flavoring agent in the food industry. It finds applications as an intermediate in industrial applications, consumer products including graffiti removers, floor polish removers, oven cleaners, as a solvent for a variety of products such as dyes, waxes, resins, nail-cleaning agents, fats, etc.

Application

Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in rats and smoke flavoring from rice husk using chromatography techniques.

Twelve male and female rats per group were given tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA) by gavage at 0, 15, 50, 150 or 500 mg/kg/day. Males were dosed for 47 days, beginning 14 days before mating, and females were dosed for 42-52 days
