Application

Erythrosin B has been used as a dye in fluorescence lifetime imaging.[1]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Erythrosin B, also called as eosin B, is a xanthene dye.[2] It belongs to the family of fluorescein dyes. Erythrosin B is an artificial food dye that induces hyperkinesis when swallowed by susceptible children. It plays a major role in inhibiting dopamine uptake and high affinity 3H-ouabain binding and ion transport in synaptosomes from rat caudate nucleus.[3][4]

Suitability

Counterstain to alum-hematoxylin.

Questions

  1. Can Erythrosin B sodium salt (product number 198269) be used for manufacturing beverages?

    1 answer
    1. Erythrosin B sodium salt is not suitable for use in the formulation of beverages. For such purposes, the appropriate product to be used is FD&C Red No. 3, which is an acceptable grade of the dye for use in manufacturing beverages where legal. Although Erythrosin B sodium salt is offered, it does not meet the quality standards required for use in manufacturing beverages.
