Description

General description

Photocatalytic activity of mixtures of TiO₂ (P25) with rare earth oxides for the oxidation of acetone has been reported.[1] The vapor-phase aldol condensation of acetone over MgO promoted with alkali (Li, Na, K and Cs) or alkaline earth (Ca, Sr and Ba) metal ions has been studied.[2] Acetone undergoes Aldol condensation in the presence of catalysts Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDH) and Cl^- and/or CO₃^2- as compensating anions to afford diacetone alcohol and mesityl oxide.[3] Enantioselective Aldol condensation of acetone with several isatins has been described.[4]

application

Acetone is the suitable reagent for use in UV spectroscopy. It may be employed in the following studies:

• As an organic solvent to investigate the zeta potential of TiO₂ and Al₂O₃ powders.[5]
• Synthesis of poly(ortho esters) (POE), biodegradable carriers for drug delivery devices.[6]
• Spectrophotometric determination of ester groups in lipids.[7]

Acetone′s luminesence intensity is dependent upon the solution components . The absorption of UV light by acetone, results in its photolysis and the production of radials .
