General description

Ethanol, also known as Ethyl Alcohol, is a volatile primary alcohol with a straight-chain structure. It is frequently employed as a biochemical reagent, effectively denaturing proteins from bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Widely utilized in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemical research, this DNase, RNase, NICKase, and protease-free form of ethanol plays a crucial role in purifying and precipitating biomolecules like nucleic acids (DNA & RNA) and proteins. Additionally, it finds application in histology for preparing staining and destaining reagents, as well as in the dehydration of tissues before embedding.

Application

Ethanol has been used:
  • in vehicle-treated controls to perform mouse experiments
  • in viability assay along with crystal violet to stain human and mouse high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) cells after stimulation
  • to prepare 17β-estradiol (E2) to use in cell culture experiments
  • in cell cycle analysis for fixing cells drop-wise

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ethanol is a widely used organic chemical in industry and consumer goods. This aliphatic alcohol is mainly used in industry as a solvent and as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals.

Features and Benefits

  • Versatile and adaptable for a wide variety of laboratory and research applications
  • BioUltra Grade for your Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemical research
  • Tested to confirm low levels of heavy metal contamination, ensuring suitability for various applications
  • Free from DNase, RNase, NICKase and proteaseTested for trace levels of Anions and Cations
