PFOA, its salts and related substances are listed in Part A of Annex I of the Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. It can only be used for Laboratory-scale research or as a reference standard

Derogations until 4 July 2025 are uses in
  • photolithography or etch processes in semiconductor manufacturing
  • photographic coatings applied to films
  • invasive and implantable medical devices
The use is further allowed in firefighting foams for Class B fires until 4 July 2025
