Activated charcoal (activated carbon) has been used:
- As an adsorbent for p-cresol in the fermentation broth, during its synthesis from p-hydroxyphenylacetate catalyzed by p-hydroxyphenylacetate decarboxylase.[1]
- To form a charcoal filter in a Drierite cartridge for removing organic compounds from the air for the odor delivery system.[2]
- As an organic sorbent to study adsorption equilibrium of ammonia gas.[3]
