General description
Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) or colony stimulating factor 3 (CSF-3) is produced in response to specific stimulation by a variety of cells including macrophages, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and bone marrow stroma. Human and murine G-CSF are cross-species reactive. The gene encoding G-CSF is localized on human chromosome 17. Recombinant human G-CSF is an 18.7kDa protein consisting of 174 amino acid residues.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) or colony stimulating factor 3 (CSF-3) is a hematopoietic growth factor that stimulates the development of committed progenitor cells to neutrophils and enhances the functional activities of the mature end-cell. It controls the production, differentiation and function of granulocytes. G-CSF is being used clinically to facilitate hematopoietic recovery after bone marrow transplantation. The protein has been shown to have a role in bone repair in animal models and clinically approved for neutropenia treatment.
Physical form
Lyophilized from 5 mM Sodium Citrate, pH 4.0.
Reconstitution
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
