Biochem/physiol Actions

B355252 is a neuroprotective agent that potentiates nerve growth factor (NGF)-induced neurite outgrowth and protects against cell death caused by glutamate-evoked oxidative stress. In a murine hippocampal neuronal cell line, B355252 increased cell viability and protected against cell death caused by glutamate-induced toxicity, inhibiting glutamate-evoked increase in intracellular Ca2+ and ROS production.

Cerebral ischemia is a leading cause of disability and death worldwide. However, an effective therapeutic approach for the condition remains undiscovered. The previously proposed growth factor-based therapy has been inefficient due to its inability to pass through the blood-brain barrier.
