Gene Information

human ... CAH3(761)

General description

Anti-CA3 Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CA3 protein.
Carbonic anhydrase III (CA3) is a member of a multi-gene CA family that encodes carbonic anhydrase isozymes namely Car3 and CAIII. The expression of isozymes has been shown to abundantly increase during muscle aging and is relatively muscle specific. It exhibits a fibre type-specific expression pattern.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human CA3.

Immunogen Range: 141-190

Application

Anti-CA3 antibody produced in rabbit is suitable for indirect ELISA and western blot applications.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Carbonic anhydrase III (CA3) may act as a new biomarker of sarcopenia. Higher CA levels indicate an increased demand of CO2 removal in senescent muscle and the age-related fibre type shifts to slower-contracting muscles during human aging. CA3 is found to be associated with rheumatoid arthritis. It is specifically insufficient in the skeletal muscle of patients suffering from Myasthenia gravis (MG) (an autoimmune disease mainly mediated by antibodies against acetylcholine receptor). CA3 possesses low carbon dioxide hydratase activity, resistance to the CA inhibitor acetazolamide unlike the other members of the CA family.
