Gene Information

human ... SYN1(6853)

General description

Anti-Synapsin Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Synapsin protein.
Synapsin I (SYN1) is a synaptic vesicle associated protein. It is present in the central nervous system like olfactory bulb, cerebral cortex, hippocampus, basal ganglia, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum, pons-medulla, spinal cord and posterior pituitary gland. The protein is found in the nucleus and cytoplasm of granule cells, and in the glomerular synaptic complex of the cerebellum. SYN1 gene is located in human chromosome Xp11.3.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Synapsin.

Immunogen Range: 3-52

Application

Anti-Synapsin, N-Terminal antibody has been used in immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Synapsin I (SYN1) plays an important role in neurotransmitter release, exocytosis of the synaptic vesicles, neurite elongation and synaptogenesis. Brain dysfunction occurs due to improper expression of synapsin I.

Neural stem cells (NSCs) are multi-potent stem cells able to self-renew and generate immature and differentiated cell populations by asymmetric division. The NSCs are of considerable interest for cell replacement in neuro-degenerative diseases. NSCs are usually identified and expanded by
