Gene Information

human ... MAOB(4129)

General description

Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is localized in the outer mitochondrial membrane. It exists in two forms MAOA and MAOB. It is expressed in specific zone of brain i.e. hypothalamus, hippocampus, brain stem and olfactory bulb.

Immunogen

Amine oxidase [flavin-containing] B recombinant protein epitope signature tag (PrEST)

Application

Anti-MAOB antibody produced in rabbit has been used for immunostaining and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

MAOB (monoamine oxidase B) is involved in the oxidative metabolism of neurotransmitters and dietary amines, such as dopamine, neuroactive, vasoactive amines and the Parkinsonism-producing neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). It forms H2O2 during dopamine metabolism. It is associated with the cause of Parkinson′s disease (PD).

Features and Benefits

Prestige Antibodies® are highly characterized and extensively validated antibodies with the added benefit of all available characterization data for each target being accessible via the Human Protein Atlas portal linked just below the product name at the top of this page. The uniqueness and low cross-reactivity of the Prestige Antibodies® to other proteins are due to a thorough selection of antigen regions, affinity purification, and stringent selection. Prestige antigen controls are available for every corresponding Prestige Antibody and can be found in the linkage section.

Every Prestige Antibody is tested in the following ways:
  • IHC tissue array of 44 normal human tissues and 20 of the most common cancer type tissues.
  • Protein array of 364 human recombinant protein fragments.
