Description

General description

trans-β-Apo-8′-carotenal is a linear aldehydic carotenoid.[1][2] It is naturally found in oranges, spinach, grass, tangerines and marigolds[2] and thus, it is directly absorbed from the diet.[3]

Application

trans-β-Apo-8′-carotenal has been used as an internal standard during vitamin E analysis.[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

trans-β-Apo-8′-carotenal is commercially available as a food colorant.[3]

Natural carotenoid that is formed from β-carotene in vivo and is an inducer of cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A) in rats and in Ah-receptor-responsive mice.
