General description

Potassium bromide, a water-soluble inorganic salt, is redox reagent.

Application

Potassium bromide may be used along with:
  • Cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) for synthesizing dibromides via alkene bromination.
  • Sodium perborate for synthesizing brominated anilines via oxidative bromination of unprotected aromatic amines.
  • Hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide for the bromination of active methylene and methyne compounds with high chemoselectivity.
Suitable for use with FT-IR spectrometers
May be used for removal of peripheral membrane proteins.
