General description

Gamithromycin is a drug, which is administered to cattle for the treatment of bovine respiratory disease caused by Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni and Mannheimia haemolytica.[1] It is also effective in treating certain infections caused by Mycoplasma. [1]

Application

Gamithromycin may be used as a reference standard in the determination of gamithromycin in samples of plasma, lung tissue and pulmonary epithelial lining fluid using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS).[2]

Strains of the Pasteurellaceae bacteria Pasteurella multocida and Mannheimia haemolytica are major etiological agents of bovine respiratory disease (BRD). Treatment of BRD with antimicrobials is becoming more challenging due to the increasing occurrence of resistance in infecting strains. In Pasteurellaceae

Gamithromycin is a macrolide approved for the treatment of bovine and swine respiratory diseases. Our study aims to establish the clinical breakpoint and optimum dose regimen for gamithromycin against Haemophilus parasuis in piglets. Gamithromycin was well absorbed and fully bioavailable

Questions

  1. I would like to know about the solubility of gamithromycin. in which solvent is it recommended to be solubilized and at what maximum concentration?

    1 answer
    1. The solubility of this product is not determined. However, literature indicates that gamithromycin is typically soluble in DMSO. The exact concentration at which it can be solubilized is not determined.
