Gene Information

mouse ... Gucy2E(14919)

General description

Guanylyl cyclase GC-E (UniProt: P52785; also known as EC: 4.6.1.2, Guanylate cyclase 2E, GC-2E) is encoded by the Gucy2e (also known as Guc2e) gene (Gene ID: 14919) in murine species. GC-2E is a single-pass type I membrane protein that plays a specific functional role in the rods and/or cones of photoreceptors. It may be the enzyme involved in the re-synthesis of cGMP required for recovery of the dark state after phototransduction. Following photoexcitation, cGMP in photoreceptors is first hydrolyzed by a light-activated phosphodiesterase (PDE6) and then replenished by a retinal membrane guanylyl cyclase. It is synthesized with a 50 amino acid signal peptide that is cleaved to generate the mature enzyme. It consists of an extracellular domain (aa 51-469), a helical domain (aa 470-490) and a cytoplasmic domain (aa 491-1108).

Specificity

Clone 8A5 detects Guanylate cyclase-1 in Bovine, Human, and murine species. It targets an epitope within 48 amino acids from the C-terminal end.

Immunogen

Epitope: C-terminus
GST-tagged recombinant fragment corresponding to 48 amino acids from the C-terminal end of human Guanylate cyclase-1.

Application

Anti-Guanylate Cyclase-2E, clone 8A5, Cat. No. MABN2436, is a highly specific mouse monoclonal antibody that targets retinal Guanylyl cyclase (RETGC-1; GC-2E) and has been used in Immunofluorescence and Western Blotting.
