A quaternary lidocaine derivative, permanently charged, and lipophobic. A powerful blocker of voltage-sensitive Na+ conductance when applied intracellularly. Suppresses the generation of Na+-dependent spikes from inside the cell membrane, without affecting Ca2+ currents or glutamate-activated currents.

Increased afferent input resulting from painful injury augments the activity of central nociceptive circuits via both neuron-neuron and neuron-glia interactions. Microglia, resident immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS), play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of chronic pain.

Disrupting binocular vision during a developmental critical period can yield enduring changes to ocular dominance (OD) in primary visual cortex (V1). Here we investigated how this experience-dependent plasticity is coordinated within the laminar circuitry of V1 by deleting separately in
Bioluminescent optogenetics (BL-OG) allows activation of photosensory proteins, such as opsins, by either fiberoptics or by administering a luciferin. BL-OG thus confers both optogenetic and chemogenetic access within the same genetically targeted neuron. This bimodality offers a powerful approach for
