General description

Gold (III) chloride hydrate (HAuCl4) can be used as a precursor to synthesize goldnanoparticles and p-type dopant for most conjugated organic molecules. Thedoping leads to the expansion of crystalline lattice and enhances conductivitydue to the formation of a large number of chargecarriers.

Application

Gold(III) chloride hydrate can be used to prepare TiO2-supported Au-based photocatalyst by deposition-precipitation with urea. These catalysts show a higher amount and production rate of hydrogen via a water-splitting reaction.

Conjugate polythiophene films can be prepared by the solution-doping method using HAuCl4 as a dopant. These highly conductive polymer films can be applied in the field of vapor sensing and organic electronics.

HAuCl4 can be reduced to prepare gold nanoparticles by using different reducing agents like NaBH4, glucose, and poly (propylene imine) dendrimer.
