Protein recovery from industrial microbial processes can be very expensive, often exceeding the cost of protein production. We have genetically engineered 3 beta-galactosidase (beta-gal) fusion proteins containing poly-aspartic acid tails to test the effect of the tails on recovery by

Insurmountable detection challenges will impede the development of many of the next-generation of lab-on-a-chip devices (e.g., point-of-care and real-time health monitors). Here we present the first membrane-based, microfluidic sample preconcentration method that is continuous, quantifiable, simple, and capable of working

An efficient purification of recombinant proteins often requires a high ratio of recombinant to host proteins. In plants, Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) is the most abundant leaf protein, thus strongly impacting purification yield. Here, we describe a simple and robust purification

Articles

Gene therapy has become one of the most discussed techniques in biomedical research in recent years.

Professor Yoshiki Katayama (Kyushu University, Japan) discusses recent advances in drug delivery systems and strategies that exploit the EPR effect, with a special focus on stimuli-responsive systems based on novel materials.

We present an article that discusses two applications in particular; first, using these layers as polyelectrolyte membranes to control permeability.

Microfluidic assembly improves polyamine nanoencapsulation of nucleic acids, overcoming challenges like polydispersity and poor reproducibility.

Questions

1–8 of 8 Questions
  1. Are there any details available about the amine group distribution of this polyethyleneimine?

    1 answer
    1. Unfortunately, the amine group distribution in this product is not determined or provided in the product documentation. This means that information about the exact ratio of primary, secondary, and tertiary amines in this particular polyethyleneimine may not be available.

  2. How can I determine the shelf life / expiration / retest date of this product?

    1 answer
    1. If this product has an expiration or retest date, it will be shown on the Certificate of Analysis (COA, CofA). If there is no retest or expiration date listed on the product's COA, we do not have suitable stability data to determine a shelf life. For these products, the only date on the COA will be the release date; a retest, expiration, or use-by-date will not be displayed.
For all products, we recommend handling per defined conditions as printed in our product literature and website product descriptions. We recommend that products should be routinely inspected by customers to ensure they perform as expected.
For products without retest or expiration dates, our standard warranty of 1 year from the date of shipment is applicable.

  3. How is shipping temperature determined? And how is it related to the product storage temperature?

    1 answer
    1. Products may be shipped at a different temperature than the recommended long-term storage temperature. If the product quality is sensitive to short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped on wet or dry-ice. If the product quality is NOT affected by short-term exposure to conditions other than the recommended long-term storage, it will be shipped at ambient temperature. As shipping routes are configured for minimum transit times, shipping at ambient temperature helps control shipping costs for our customers. For more information, please refer to the Storage and Transport Conditions document: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/deepweb/assets/sigmaaldrich/marketing/global/documents/316/622/storage-transport-conditions-mk.pdf

  4. I don't see storage information here. What are the storage recommendations for this product?

    1 answer
    1. This product should be stored in room temperature. Store under inert gas. Please note that this chemical is sensitive to carbon dioxide.

  5. I see two molecular weight values reported for Product 181978, Poly(ethyleneimine) solution. Which one is correct?

    1 answer
    1. Both of the approximate molecular weights listed for this product are correct based on the testing methods used by Sigma-Aldrich. However, each molecular weight is determined by a different method. The Mn refers to the number-average molecular weight (determined by GPC) while the Mw refers to the weight-average molecular weight (determined by Light Scattering). These two numbers are different but still related. The polydispersity is the measure of uniformity of the molecules in a polymer sample. A ratio of the weight-average molecular and the number-average molecular weight indicates how uniform the polymer sample is. The greater the ratio the less uniform the polymer molecules.

  6. Product 181978, Poly(ethyleneimine) solution, is listed as a solution but it is sold by weight; is this a solid or a liquid?

    1 answer
    1. This product is a solution of Poly(ethyleneimine) in water. However, this product, like many Sigma-Aldrich products, is weighed into the bottle. If 5 grams of this solution is purchased, approximately 4.62mL will be received.

  7. What possible impurities are present in Product 181978, Poly(ethyleneimine) solution?

    1 answer
    1. Although Sigma-Aldrich does not currently test for the impurities in this product, 2-aminoethanol and less than 50 ppb of unreacted monomer may be present as a result of the manufacturing process.
