Biochem/physiol Actions

Ethyl rosmarinate is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidative compound present in Lycopus lucidus, Hyptis suaveolens and other medical plants that potently inhibits LPS induced production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 in alveolar macrophages. Ethyl rosmarinate induces relaxation in aortic rings via an endothelium-independent pathway.

In this study, a series of rosmarinic acid and analogs were investigated for their anti-inflammatory potential against LPS-induced alveolar macrophages (MH-S). Our results showed that, among the test compounds, ethyl rosmarinate (3) exhibited the most potent inhibitory effect on NO
