General description

Diethofencarb is a systemic, phenyl-carbamate fungicide, used for the control of gray mold on fruits and vegetables. Its mode of action involves the inhibition of phospholipids and fatty acid biosynthesis in pathogens.

Application

Diethofencarb may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of the analyte in peel and pulp of apples using dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction, followed by high-performance liquid chromatography with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD).

To examine the mechanism and toxicological significance of thyroidal tumor observed slightly in a long-term rat study with diethofencarb (isopropyl 3,4-diethoxycarbanilate), male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed diethofencarb in diets at concentrations of 0, 5,000 or 20,000 ppm for 3 months.

We have previously shown that increased sensitivity to diethofencarb in the carbendazim(MBC)-resistant F914 strain of Neurospora crassa is caused by a single amino-acid change in beta-tubulin, 198Glu to Gly. Three diethofencarb-resistant mutants that are also resistant to MBC were isolated
