FUT8 (fucosyltransferase 8) is made of 575 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 66516. This enzyme is a member of the glycosyltransferase 23 (GT23) family. It has no N-glycosylation sites. This gene is highly expressed in the brain, placenta, lung, stomach, small intestine and jejunum and moderately expressed in pancreas, uterus, kidney and urinary bladder. FUT8 is a typical type II membrane protein, located in the Golgi apparatus. This gene is located on human chromosome 14q23.3.

FUT8 (fucosyltransferase 8) helps in the conversion of fucose residue from GDP-fucose to the reducing terminal GlcNAc of Asn linked oligosaccharide (N-glycan) through an alpha1.6- linkage. It is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), ovarian cancer ,thyroid cancer, pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer.
