A potent broad-range inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Inhibits MMPs in vitro (K_i = 0.2 nM for MMP-1; K_i = 500 nM for MMP-2; K_i = 20 µM for MMP-3; K_i = 100 nM for MMP-8; and K_i = 100 nM for MMP-9). Also reduces the inflammatory and the hyperproliferative responses that occur following topical phorbol ester application.
