Zeatin is a coconut milk-derived plant hormone and is a common plant cytokinin that is found in the developing or meristematic tissues and organs such as roots, shoot apex, immature organs, and others. Its structure includes the amino group of adenine being linked with the hydroxylated isoprene residue in the trans-position.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Zeatin promotes the growth of lateral buds and stimulates cell division (lateral dominance), callus initiation, and seed germination. Zeatin is used with Murashige and Skoog and other media. Zeatin promotes multiple shoot generation from internodes and high-frequency thick-spread roots.
The effect of plant population density (PPD) and root-induced leaf cytokinin on the compensatory growth of potted corn seedlings during post-drought rewatering was investigated. The study design comprised four treatments: (1) wetness with low PPD, (2) wetness with high PPD
