General description

Anti-Cytochrome c antibody detects endogenous levels of total Cytochrome c protein.
The cytochrome c gene is mapped to human chromosome 7p15.3. The encoded protein consists of two thioether present between heme and two cysteine residues included in a CXXCH motif (highly conserved). It is localized to mitochondrial intermembrane space.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Cytochrome c.

Immunogen Range: 10-59

Application

Anti-Cytochrome c, N-terminal antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blot analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cytochrome c is a water-soluble intermediary of electron transport chain. It acts as an ROS (reactive oxygen species) scavenger, and involved in redox-mediated protein import and apoptosis. Cytochrome c has peroxidase activity, contributing towards intrinsic pathway of apoptosis.
