ELOVL (Elongation of very long chain fatty acids) fatty acid elongase 7 is expressed in most tissues except heart and skeletal muscles. In human chromosome, the gene ELOVL7 is localised on 5q12.1.
Immunogen
ELOVL7 antibody was raised against a 15 amino acid peptide near the amino terminus of human ELOVL7.
Biochem/physiol Actions
ELOVL7 catalyses the elongation of long chain fatty acids, preferably saturated long chain fatty acids. Elovl7 exhibited activity towards C16-C20 acyl coenzyme A with maximum affinity towards carbon length of C18. Elovl7 expression is regulated by sterol regulatory element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1) and also by other lipogenic enzymes. The expression levels of Elovl7 is higher in prostate cancer leading to its progression.

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) replication requires host metabolism. Infection alters the activity in multiple metabolic pathways, including increasing fatty acid elongation and lipid synthesis. The virus-host interactions regulating the metabolic changes associated with replication are essential for infection. While multiple host

Very long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs) exert a variety of cellular functions and are associated with numerous diseases. However, the precise pathway behind their elongation has remained elusive. Moreover, few regulatory mechanisms for VLCFAs synthesis have been identified. Elongases catalyze the
A number of epidemiologic studies have indicated a strong association between dietary fat intake and prostate cancer development, suggesting that lipid metabolism plays some important roles in prostate carcinogenesis and its progression. In this study, through our genome-wide gene expression
Stress and virus infection regulate lipid metabolism. Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection induces fatty acid (FA) elongation and increases the abundance of lipids with very-long-chain FA (VLCFA) tails. While reprogramming of metabolism can be stress related, the role of stress in
