General description

Profilins are highly conserved pan-allergens that occur in plant foods, pollen and latex. Profilins have five distinct isoforms (PRF1-5) that bind with actin filaments to regulate cytoskeletal organization. PRF4 and PRF5 are cytoplasmic proteins that are expressed in mature pollens . Monoclonal Anti-Profilin antibody is specific for Arabidopsis pollen profilin (PRF4 and PRF5). The antibody detects tobacco and maize profilin (approx. 14 kDa), but does not react with constitutive specific profilins (PRF1, 2, and 3).

Immunogen

profilin PRF4 protein.

Application

Monoclonal Anti-Profilin antibody is suitable for use in western blot (1-2 μg/mL using total extracts of Arabidopsis flower), indirect ELISA and immunohistochemistry.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide.

Profilin is a low-molecular weight, actin monomer-binding protein that regulates the organization of actin cytoskeleton in eukaryotes, including higher plants. Unlike the simple human or yeast systems, the model plant Arabidopsis has an ancient and highly divergent multi-gene family encoding

Profilins are ubiquitous proteins, present in all eukaryotic cells and identified as allergens in pollen, latex and plant foods. The highly conserved structure justifies the cross-reactive nature of IgE antibodies against plant profilins and their designation as pan-allergens. Primary sensitization
