Solute carrier family 22 member 3 is a multi-transmembrane protein that mediates the outward transport and clearance of endogenous small organic cations as well as a wide array of drugs and environmental toxins. Known substrates for this transporter include histamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine and MPP+.
