General description

Activin receptor type-1B (ACVR1B) is a member of the protein kinase superfamily, and more specifically to the TKL Ser/Thr protein kinase family and TGFB receptor subfamily. ACVR1B, also known as activin receptor-like kinase 4 (ALK4), is a type I receptor for activin and plays major roles in cell differentiation, growth arrest and apoptosis. ACVR1B is known to form activin receptor complex with activin receptor type-2 (ACVR2A or ACVR2B). Within this receptor complex, type-2 receptors (ACVR2A and/or ACVR2B) act as a primary activin receptors whereas the type-1 receptors (including ACVR1B) act as downstream transducers of activin signals. Activins play role in many physiological and pathological processes including neuronal differentiation and neuronal survival, wound healing, extracellular matrix production, hair follicle development and cycling, FSH production, immunosuppression and carcinogenesis. ACVR1B is expressed highly in systemic sclerosis patient fibroblasts which suggests that the activin/ACRV1B signaling mechanism is involved in systemic sclerosis. ACVR1B is expressed in many tissues, most strongly in kidney, pancreas, brain, lung, and liver.

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of human ACVR1B.
