General description

3-methylpyridine acts as a nucleophile in cross-coupling reactions, enabling the formation of aryl-pyridine bonds and facilitating the synthesis of pyridine derivatives. It is used as a precursor in the synthesis of niacin (vitamin B3)

Application

  • [The effect of new quaternary ammonium compounds on bacteria and fungi. 5: Synthesis of 3-methyl-n-alkylthiomethylpyridinium-, 1-methyl-3-n-alkylthiomethylimidazolium- and 1-ethyl-3-n-alkylthioimidazolinium chloride].: This research focuses on the synthesis of various quaternary ammonium compounds, including derivatives of 3-Methylpyridine, and evaluates their antimicrobial properties against bacteria and fungi (Pernak et al., 1983).
  • Stereochemistry of cobalt porphyrins. I. The structure and characterization of 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethylporphinatobis(3-methylpyridine)cobalt(II).: This paper discusses the synthesis, structural analysis, and stereochemical properties of cobalt porphyrins complexed with 3-Methylpyridine, highlighting their potential applications in catalysis and materials science (Little and Ibers, 1974).
