General description

Diisooctyldithiophosphinic acid has been reported as soft base. As per Pearson′s Hard and Soft Acids and Bases principle since soft base has an affinity for soft acid, it exhibits high affinity for soft cations.[1]

Application

Complexing agent for the extraction of transition metals
Diisooctyldithiophosphinic acid (bis(2,4,4-trimethyl pentyl)dithiophosphinic acid, cyanex 301) may be used in the following studies:
  • As mobile carrier in the preparation of new supported liquid membrane (SLM) system, useful for the selective transport of bismuth ions.[2]
  • As an efficient carrier for the preparation of bulk liquid membrane (BLM) system, utilized for the transport of methylene blue.[3]
  • As carrier in the preparation of a novel bulk liquid membrane (BLM) system, used to evaluate mercury transport and recovery of the ions from acidic nitrate solutions.[4]
